Adult Learners

In 2015—2016, 21% of Penn State's students were adult learners. Penn State's definition of an adult learner is a person who:

  • is 24 years of age or older; or
  • is a veteran of the armed forces; or an active duty service member; or
  • is returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; or
  • assumes multiple adult roles such as parent, spouse/partner, and employee.

While most adult learners use transfer credits as their prior learning assessment option, we invite you to explore the other possibilities for earning additional Penn State credit.
